As of April 4, 2022, Medicare covers up to 8 OTC COVID-19 tests per month, at no cost to beneficiaries who have traditional Medicare or Medicare Advantage plan.
In order to get the tests, Medicare beneficiaries need to bring their red, white and blue Medicare card to a participating pharmacy or healthcare provider. They should not use their Medicare Advantage card for these tests. The provider will bill Medicare directly. There may be more than one test per box, so 8 tests may come in fewer than 8 boxes. In addition to the 8 test per month Americans can still continue to order test kits from covidtest.gov.
